Galesburg City Council on Monday night met and discussed an ordinance that would simplify the process for allowing ride share companies to operate in the city.
City Manager Eric Hanson says this ordinance came as a result of City Clerk Kelli Bennewitz studying what ordinances are on the books in similar cities.
Hanson says this will simplify the process for ride share companies like Uber and Lyft to operate in the city.
The amendment requires that a driver secure a license from the city and instead of requiring the companies to secure the license.
This ordinance would also amend the fee from $1,500 for a TNC company to $100 for a TNC driver.
Ward 6 Council member Sarah Davis wanted clarification on how drivers would be made aware of the city’s regulations.
Hanson says they intend to put out a press release, put information on their website and have conversations on WGIL.
Ward 7 Alderman Steve Cheesman says on the surface this is something that he supports completely saying it’s a win anytime the city can make things easier while enhancing options and transportation.
Council also approved a renewal of the city’s soft drink agreement for various vending operations within the city with Atlanta Coca Cola Bottling Co.
Also, retiring GHS Girls Basketball Coach Evan Massey was honored was Monday night.
