Note: The article has been updated to reflect the property is zoned institutional, and not industrial as reported in the real estate listing. It also adds official confirmation from the Christian Science Church of Illinois that the Galesburg church has closed.

An established Galesburg religious facility that dates back more than a century is for sale after the church disbanded earlier this year.

For sale signs are planted along the perimeter of the Galesburg Christian Society church, 600 N. Broad St. The property is listed for sale by The Cramer Group/RE/MAX Traders Unlimited with an asking price of $300,000.

Tim Mitchinson, a representative of the Christian Science Church of Illinois, confirmed to WGIL the Galesburg church has closed. He said Galesburg Christian Society’s last service was the last Sunday in December.

“They closed because the amount of members was getting a little too low to handle a whole church,” Mitchinson said.

An official for Galesburg Christian Society declined further comment.

According to the online real estate listing, the 1,581 square foot church at 600 N. Broad St. was built in 1920. Adorned with intricate stained glass windows and elegant wooden pews, the church accommodates 300 worshipers.

Included with the property is the Austin organ with 15 ranks of pipes and Deacon chimes. The original Opus 1609 model pipe organ was installed in the Broad Street church in 1928.

The property is zoned institutional, according to City of Galesburg Community Development.
