The Illinois Department of Transportation says work will begin Monday lasting several months on a part of Interstate 74 near Galesburg.
Officials say construction will begin on the Interstate 74 bridges over the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad tracks just north of the Main Street Interchange.
The work is expected to last until November.
IDOT says there will be joint replacement, deck resurfacing, and other work, reducing 74 to one lane in each direction through the period.
Officials say there will be delays, and even a recommendation to use alternate routes when possible.
“Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment,” said an IDOT news release.
