Lorraine L. Ramsey, 80, of Galesburg, passed away at 12:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at home with her loving family at her side.
Lorraine was born in Galesburg to Clarence and Margaret (Carmichael) Bainter. She married Robert Marquith and had two sons, Jeff Marquith of Galesburg and Dennis Marquith of Knoxville. They had a daughter, Karen Jones (Jeff Parkin) of Galesburg. She later married Brent Ramsey. She had one step-daughter, Kasey (Nick) Sturtevant of Galesburg, who she loved like her own children. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Nicole (Nathan) Ollman, Amanda (Dustin) McCue, Zachary (Kassie) Marquith, Tre (Amber) Marquith, Caleb Marquith and Melody Block; great-grandchildren, Nora, Haylee. Konner, Ryker, Audree, Dezi and Awny. She had several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Brent; parents, Clarence and Margaret Bainter; sister, Gloria Smith; nephews, Phillip Smith and Ronald Ericson; and sister-in-law, Sally Benedict.
Lorraine worked as a housekeeper at the old St. Mary’s in Galesburg, Howard Johnson’s Hotel, in housekeeping and later the front desk receptionist. She was a bar tender at Duffy’s and owned the Idle Hour Bar in Kewanee. She then moved back to Galesburg to be with her family and worked at Seminary Manor as Head of Housekeeping for over 10 years. She was a loving mother and grandmother, her family and her dog Zelly were her life.
Cremation rites will be accorded. A celebration of life scheduled for Sunday, May 5, 2024, has been cancelled. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory, Knoxville are assisting the family with arrangements. Memorials may be donated to the Knox County Humane Society.
