Joni Marie Wheeler, age 70, of Galesburg, passed to her eternal home at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at OSF St. Mary’s, Galesburg, Illinois.
She was born on January 4, 1954, in Aledo, Illinois the daughter of Donald and Donna (Terry) Wheeler of Reynolds, Illinois They later moved to Victoria, Illinois. She graduated from ROVA High School, the class of 1972.
Surviving are her siblings, Jim Wheeler of Victoria, Illinois, Vicki (Jerry) Fox, Victoria, Illinois, Sally Bowman, Oneida, Illinois, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a stillborn daughter and son.
Joni is also survived by her companion and special friend, Tom Wrona of Aurora, Illinois.
She fought diabetes all of her life. She worked various jobs in Aurora until her health declined and she moved back to the Galesburg area. She was always more concerned about the well-being and happenings of her family and loved ones than those of herself. She loved her nieces and nephews dearly, as they were the light of her life.
Private graveside services will be held on Tuesday April 30, 2024. Memorials to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in care of her family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory, Knoxville Illinois.
