Popular coffee, doughnut and ice cream brands Dunkin’ and Baskin Robbins are expected to open its combination restaurant in Galesburg this summer.

Haresh Patel, franchisee for Dunkin’ stores in Peoria, Bloomington/Normal, Quincy and Macomb, tells WGIL the Galesburg location currently under construction should be open by August. The combination Dunkin’/Baskin-Robbins will be located at 955 N. Henderson St., site of the former Steak House restaurant.

“Dunkin’ has wanted to come to Galesburg for a while — it was just a matter of getting a brand partner to handle it,” Patel said. “Galesburg is in the middle of a growing area for Dunkin between central Illinois and Iowa.”

Owner: ‘Nothing was spared’

Patel said the Galesburg location will be the latest Dunkin’/Baskin-Robbins prototype.

“It will include all the bells and whistles,” he said. “Nothing was spared, so it should be a really nice experience for those wanting to enjoy coffee, ice cream and doughnuts in Galesburg.”

Patel said he hopes to wrap up construction by July, and expects the restaurants to open later than month or in August.

“We’re pretty big on hiring within the community, and we participate in a lot of events in the community,” he said. “We think it will be a good partnership with Galesburg.”

The Dunkin’/Baskin-Robbins restaurant will feature a drive-thru, inside dining space and a patio area for outside dining. According to building plans obtained from the city, the dinning room would have nine tables and 32 seats.

The site plan shows the building would be 2,520 square feet in size. Vehicles would enter on the south side of the property, while walk-in patrons would enter Dunkin’ through a door on the west side, facing Henderson Street. A drive-thru menu board and order station would be located at the rear of the property, and the pickup/pay window would be on the north side of the building — next to Lim’s Ice Cream.

Founded in 1950, Dunkin’ is the world’s leading baked goods and coffee chain, serving more than 3 million customers each and every day. They offer 50-plus varieties of doughnuts, but they also serve dozens of premium beverages, bagels, breakfast sandwiches and other baked goods.

It would mark the first Dunkin’ restaurant in Galesburg. Galesburg previously had a Baskin-Robbins at the site of the current Lim’s Ice Cream store.
