Thursday: Alyssa Allgood Quartet

Alyssa Allgood returns to Galesburg for a night of jazz! Thursday May 9 at Craft On Seminary Street from 6-9 p.m. Alyssa Allgood is an award-winning jazz vocalist, composer, arranger and educator with a compelling voice in the modern jazz landscape. Described as “assured and daring” by Downbeat Magazine and “a model of sophisticated song interpretation” by the Chicago Tribune, the Chicago-based artist boldly weaves soulful storytelling and rich improvisational language through original compositions, captivating arrangements and a lyrical focus of self-love and human connection. Friday: Mother’s Day Bouquet Workshop

Indulge yourself, delight your mom, or create lasting memories with your kids on Friday, May 10, 6 p.m. at Hidden Hills Vineyard! Design a personalized floral arrangement featuring an array of vibrant flowers, paired with a bottle of your favorite wine from Hidden Hills Winery. Saturday: Second Saturdays: How Does Your Garden Grow?

Spring is here! Join us from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 11 to learn how your garden grows! We will plant some veggies and seeds in our nature center garden bed and explore the Nature Center’s Monarch Waystation Gardens & pollinator plot while we learn about spring wildflowers! We will also take home your very own sunflower to grow! Class is held outdoors at the Lakeside Nature Center Shelter, with a Nature Walk through the woods, so dress for the weather! This is a free program for all ages! Pre-register here!

 

Saturday: Grand Opening of the Galesburg Public Library

Join us Saturday, May 11 to celebrate the grand opening of the new Galesburg Public Library! The Galesburg Chamber of Commerce will help us mark the occasion with a ribbon cutting, and lunch from Hy-Vee will be served. You’ll have the opportunity to tour the building, participate in a craft led by the Galesburg Community Arts Center, take photos in our photo booth, and meet children’s characters Elephant and Piggie. 

Library hours: 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Grand opening program: 11 to 11:30 a.m.

Lunch and activities: 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

An ASL Interpreter will provide services during the program. Construction of the library was made possible by funds administered by the State Librarian and the generosity of local residents, businesses, and library supporters.

 

Saturday: Beta PiLooza Music Festival for a Cause

Knox College Sorority Pi Beta Phi and Fraternity Beta Theta Pi are thrilled to invite you to Beta PiLooza, an outdoor music festival happening from 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 11 at Plomin Terrace on the Knox College Campus! Get ready to groove to live music and soak up the sun, as we come together to support a meaningful cause. Beta PiLooza aims to raise funds and collect donations for the Loving Bottoms Diaper Bank, an organization dedicated to providing diapers for families in need.

To raise these funds they be selling Pi Phi Phizzies for $3 a cup (flavored Sprite or Monster Energy) and hosting Pie a Beta for $1 a Pie or $2 for 3 Pies. Donations of period products and diapers will be accepted at the event, aiming to fill up an entire Knox College Vehicle’s worth of products! Bring your friends and family for a day filled with fantastic music and community spirit. Let’s make a difference together while having a blast!
