
A company that started in Peoria but is well known as having its headquarters in Bushnell has been saved.
Weeks after Vaughan & Bushnell said it would close after a sale couldn’t go through, there’s been another sale.
The Macomb Area Economic Development Corporation says Iowa-based Marshalltown Company has purchased Vaughan and Bushnell, claiming that the Bushnell location has been saved along with more than 100 jobs.
What’s now called Vaughan Manufacturing which makes striking tools — hammers and other similar equipment — dates back to 1869, starting out by selling tools, until its website says Alexander Vaughan came up with a design for a post auger, and later improved upon it.
Macomb economic development officials say the move means the company’s legacy will live on.
WGIL has reached out to Marshalltown Company for further comment, and have yet to hear back.
