A developer is seeking a zoning amendment that would allow for a tobacco shop to locate in a vacant North Henderson Street building.

The applicant, Abdell Qattoum, is proposing to purchase the property at 755 N. Henderson St. where he plans to open a tobacco shop. Qattoum is requesting a zoning amendment that would change the property from B1, Neighborhood Business to B2, General Business. All other personal information related to Qattoum was redacted on the application obtained by WGIL via a Freedom of Information Act request.

The Development Review Committee members reviewed the zoning amendment during its May 1 meeting and recommend approval of a zoning amendment. The purpose of the B2 District is to provide for a wide range of businesses and services relying upon the patronage from areas beyond the immediate neighborhood in which they may be located.

The Planning & Zoning Commission will consider the zoning amendment at its May 21 meeting. It would then move to the City Council for final approval.
