Galesburg-area girls shine at state track. United wins gold in relay, Galesburg takes multiple medals

The Galesburg-area has a state track champion, and they did it in record-setting fashion.

United’s Emrick Huston, Rosie Flynn, Katie Flynn, Reece Bertelsen sped to a gold medal in the Class 1A 4×200 relay with a state record time of 1:41.78 on Saturday at the Illinois High School Association girls track and field state finals in Charleston.

The same Red Storm team of Huston, Rosie Flynn, Katie Flynn, and Bertelsen took second in the 4×100 relay.

United’s Callie Hall, Rosie Flynn, Katie Flynn, and Bertelsen finished fourth in the 4×800 relay.

Galesburg senior Syriah Boyd capped her standout career by claiming three top 6 finishes in Class 2A.

Boyd finished third in the 400, fourth in the 200 and sixth in the 100.

Members of the Galesburg girls track team that competed at state included: Ella Herchenroder, Grace Herchenroder, Taylor Herchenroder, Lily Furrow and Syriah Boyd.

Galesburg’s Ella Herchenroder, Grace Herchenroder, Taylor Herchenroder and Lily Furrow finished seventh in the 4×400 relay. And Furrow was 10th in the triple jump.

Mya Strahm of Elmwood won the Class 1A pole vault with a state record vault of 4.30m.

Carmyn Huston of Monmouth-Roseville took second in the shot put and eighth in the discus.
