‘Unfavorable weather forecast’ forces Galesburg graduation indoors. Here’s the plan

Galesburg Jr./Sr. High School will conduct its Class of 2024 graduation ceremony in John Thiel Gymnasium due to unfavorable weather conditions for Sunday. Commencement exercises were originally scheduled to be outside at Van Dyke Field.

Graduation will be held inside John Thiel Gymnasium at 1 p.m. Sunday.

A statement from District 205 reads: “Our goal is to provide a great commencement experience for each of our students and their families. Currently, the forecasted weather for Sunday is not favorable for an outdoor ceremony.”

Students need to be dressed and ready at 12:15 p.m. Graduates will line up in the C wing. District 205 says heels will not be permitted in Thiel Gymnasium.
