Tuesday: Knox Rocks

Join the Knox College pop, funk, folk, punk and brass brass bands for the end of the term concert on the Knox College Gizmo Patio! Come rock out with us from 5:30 to 11 p.m. Tuesday, May 28. Featuring Buttered Noodles, Miss Izabella’s Lost Friends, Chicxulub, Strawberry MILF, Whiskey Bees, Seminary Brass, The Not Reallys and Midwest Acolyte. This event is free and open to the public!

 

Friday: Nature at Night: Summer Outdoor Family Fun-Palooza

Join us on Friday, May 31st from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Lakeside Nature Center for a Family Fun-Palooza! Play some simple outdoor games that may already be your family favorites or learn some new ways to enjoy time together! We will talk about nearby places to enjoy the outdoors, from day-trips to your own backyard! We will end the night with s’mores!

Open to all ages, cost is $5 per person or $15 per family by May 29. Register here!

 

Saturday: National Trails Day Hike and Outdoor Concert

Join us at Blackthorn Nature Hill Preserve on June 1st at Noon to hike and enjoy an outdoor concert on National Trails Day! Come hike at and look for painted woodland animals from noon to 1 p.m. Then at 1 p.m., enjoy the picnic lunch you brought with you, while listening to Dance Hall Doves perform until 2 p.m. This event is FREE, but feel free to bring a donation. 

 

Saturday: Kayak Nights

Join us for our popular Kayak Nights on Lake Storey Beach! Held mostly on the first Saturday and third Friday of the summer months, we will explore Lake Storey from 8 to 9:30 p.m.! Dates: June 1, June 21, July 6, July 19, August 3, August 16, September 7. All ages allowed, but must register each person individually. Ages 17 and under must be accompanied by a registered adult. Life jackets are provided and must be worn at all times on the water. Cost is $20 for a kayak rental, $30 for a tandem kayak rental, and $5 bring your own kayak! Register at the link here!

 

Sunday: 5th Annual Pride Picnic

Safe Space is excited to announce the return of our Annual Pride Picnic! Join us from 1 to 5 p.m. June 2 at Lake Storey Shelters 1 & 2, next to the Pavilion, to celebrate the beginning of Pride Month! The organization will provide meat to be grilled and a Vegetarian meat option, chips, some sides, water and Kool-aid provided.

The schedule will be the following: 

1 p.m. – Mealtime

2 to 5 p.m. – We will offer activities for children including but not limited to Touch-a-Truck, and Drag Story hour.

During this event, a mobile unit will provide FREE and CONFIDENTIAL Sexual Health testing and information. And the Knox County Health Department will be providing Vaccines! Please contact Christina King or Safe Space if you have any questions.
