Galesburg to spend $2M to repair city streets this summer. Here are the locations

The city will spend just more than $2 million to resurface 13 Galesburg streets in need for repair.

Aldermen on Monday approved a bid in the amount of $2,189,342 submitted by Brandt Construction Co. of Milan for the road repair. The contract will require the contractor to mill and resurface areas of deteriorated asphalt surface, replace bad sections of curb, and replace sidewalk and sidewalk curb ramps where necessary.

Another location — Chambers Street from Fifth Street to South Street — was not included in this bid. Due to the size and scope of that project, additional engineering work is still being completed on the project. It is planned to bid this project out separately later this year with construction likely taking place in the spring of 2025.

The projects will be funded through proceeds from “$5,005,000 General Obligation Bonds, Series 2023.” When approved earlier in 2023, the entire $5 million in bonds were designated to go to a community center. However, aldermen amended the bond allocation to allow:
