A Peoria-area man is now facing more federal trouble — this time, for how he financially handled the COVID-19 testing his company did.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says Aaron Rossi, 40, of Morton has been indicted by a grand jury on multiple charges including healthcare fraud, mail fraud, and wire fraud — all involving now-closed Reditus Labs out of Pekin.

Rossi, who’s also in the midst of a civil lawsuit against him regarding the business filed in Tazewell County, allegedly billed both healthcare providers and the State of Illinois for the testing work, even though — the U.S. Attorney says — not only did he have a flat-rate contract with the state, he could only bill the state for the cost difference between what health insurance covered per test, and the flat rate.

Prosecutors say the alleged double payments happened between October of 2020 and November of 2021.

The civil case contends Rossi used most of the money from Reditus for his own allegedly lavish lifestyle.

He also just pleaded guilty to federal tax fraud charges stemming from his time running a Bloomington surgery business and will be sentence for that in July.

Rossi will be in federal court in Peoria for the new charges June 24.  Prosecutors say he could face up to 10 years imprisonment for each of the healthcare fraud charges, and up to 20 years imprisonment for each of the mail fraud and wire fraud charges, if convicted.

Rossi, while out of custody on bond, allegedly at one point was arrested in Galesburg.
