Margaret M. Burger, age 80, of Bloomington, Illinois died at 2:34 a.m. on Monday, June 17, 2024, at Martin Health Center, Bloomington, Illinois.
She was born on June 28, 1943, in Elgin, Illinois the daughter of Delbert and Thelma (West) McCommons. She graduated from Galesburg High School, the class of 1961. She attended and graduated from the Lutheran School of Nursing in Moline, Illinois. She married Francis “Frank” Burger on May 10, 1986, in Moline, Illinois. He preceded her in death on February 24, 2011.
Surviving are her two daughters, Julie (Wayne) Barth of Normal, Illinois and Michelle (Alan) Banks of Norfolk, Virginia; grandchildren: Emily (Blake Shull) Barth of Peoria, Illinois, Jordan Berrios of Norfolk, Virginia, Justin (Katie) Berrios of Greenbelt, Maryland, Kayla Berrios of New York, New York, and Katelyn Berrios of Norfolk, Virginia; one great-granddaughter Henley Shull. Also surviving are her brothers, Bob (Barb) McCommons of Knoxville, Illinois and Dave (Lisa) McCommons of Galesburg, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She worked as a nurse for many years at the former Lutheran Hospital in Moline, Illinois, then the University of Michigan where she retired. Margaret and Frank then moved to Oak Run, Dahinda, Illinois where they lived and were active members of the Dahinda United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her grandchildren, traveling and baking cookies.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Galesburg, Illinois. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hurd-Hendricks Fellowship Center following the services. Memorials may be made to the Dahinda United Methodist Church in-lieu of flowers.
