Authorities say a citation has been issued in connection to a weekend fire that destroyed a garage and caused other damage.
Galesburg Police and Fire say the homeowner, after an investigation, was cited for Illegal Possession of Fireworks and given a Notice to Appear in Court.
Fire officials say that’s because the blaze in the 900 block of Bateman Street posed a, “significant danger” to the responding firefighters.
Firefighters went to the home Saturday afternoon seeing the home’s garage on fire, and what they said were large quantities of fireworks exploding.
Crews were able to put the fire out, even with the fireworks exploding at them, and electricity and natural gas running to it.
The fireworks possessed are said to be illegal under Illinois State law.
No one was hurt.
