A longtime Galesburg educator is the new director of special education for District 205.
Debra Cratty, recently special education coordinator for the district, assumed the role of director of special education effective Monday. She replaces Luan Statham, who retired from the post in June.
Cratty will enter her 19th year in District 205 this fall. She started in the district as a special education teacher at Lombard Middle School. After teaching there for five years, she became a dean of students at Lombard. She also later served as dean of students at Silas Willard Elementary School.
Cratty was special education coordinator for the district from 2017 through June of this year.
In a news release, Cratty said, “I am excited for a new adventure and learning many things along the way as the director of special education. Galesburg has an excellent staff that makes everything possible in the special education department.”
