It’s called the annual “Taste of Galesburg,” but it’s more than that.
This year, sixteen of Galesburg’s restaurants will be participating making samples of some of their best menu items available for sale.
And, while that’s lower than other years, organizer Kraig Boynton tells Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL he gets it since many restaurants still have issues retaining employees who want to actually work.
“This event is actually designed to promote the restaurants…of Knox County,” said Boynton. “It’s a great event showcasing the restaurants, and it’s a great time for everybody in the community.”
Boynton says some of the more established restaurants will end up giving a crash course of sorts to those that are new.
“We take some of our key restaurants that have been around here for numerous years, and the restaurant community is really good. They tend to work well together,” said Boynton. “They will reach out to those other restaurants and say ‘This is what we’ve found in the past. This is what you’re going to want to do. Make sure you bring this. Make sure you bring that.’ It just helps them all out.
And Boynton says that will be key today, as he expects a lot of people to show up, given how more than ideal the weather is expected to be Thursday. That means preparing more food, or do whatever needs to be done to address that.
But food is not all you will experience. Boynton says there will be drinks through G&M Distributors, a raffle drawing with proceeds benefiting VNA Community Services, live music on several stages featuring local favorites “Neon Nova” and “The Mix,” and children’s activities.
The Taste of Galesburg runs from 4:30pm to 10:30pm.
