No carnival at Abingdon festival this year

The Abingdon Community Festival says something will unfortunately be missing this year, but it’s not for lack of trying.

Festival officials say on social media they were not able to secure a carnival vendor this year, due to, “circumstances beyond our control.”

As disappointing as that may sound, the rest of the festival activities will go on as planned, from livestock judging to figure eight races and organizers say it’s not just about those events, either: it’s about putting smiles on family’s faces.

The Abingdon Community Festival is scheduled for August 22nd through the 25th.

The festival’s full statement is below.

We, as the Abingdon Community Festival Association, want you to know that we truly care about our community and this festival. We are run by a small group of volunteers who put forth a lot of effort to make sure that for four days, we put on a community event that everyone enjoys. With that being said, it’s time to address the elephant in the room. We, unfortunately, were not able to secure a carnival for this year’s fair due to circumstances outside of our control. Even though this may be disappointing to some, we ARE excited to be able to provide family-friendly entertainment for ALL ages with ten different inflatables for two nights, Friday and Saturday.
This fair was started 70 years ago, on the belief that every part of the fair makes us a great family-friendly event. It’s not JUST for the livestock families, the figure 8, arts and crafts, bakers, gardeners , or merchants. Every part of the fair is what makes us a success year after year. We put our hearts into these four days to bring smiles to families’ faces. To make memories to last a lifetime. For the young and the older generations. Please know that we will be actively looking at new carnivals for next year. We are seeing this change with many festivals and carnivals across the state and will try our hardest to continue to make this an amazing fair for families in our community and surrounding communities.
We hope to see you August 22nd through the 25th! A calendar of events will be posted soon!
