Carl Edwin Hooven, 81, of Galesburg, died at 5:55 p.m. Thursday, July 18, 2024, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois.
He was born to Kenneth Patrick and Alice Veronica (Vcella) McLaughlin on November 13, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio. Carl worked as a pipefitter, lastly working for Steamfitters Local 250 in Los Angeles, California. In 2000, he married Diane Sue West in Laughlin, Nevada.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Diane Hooven of Galesburg; three daughters: Kimberly (Michael) Wilt of Quartzsite, Arizona, Teresa (Dallas) Doyle of Maysville, Kentucky, and Kelly Dare of Ontario, California; nine grandchildren: Brent Schan, Nicole Schan,
Rochelle Cain, Courtney White, Brandon McGill, Justin Badeau, Ryan Badeau, David Spence, and Kyle Spence; twenty great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; two step-daughters: Barbara Jones of Iowa and Crystal (Rapheal) Condis of California; one brother, Patrick Hooven of North Las Vegas, Nevada; and his beloved cat, Frank. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters: Lynda Richardson-Burns, Robyn Bryant, and Tina Schnell.
Back in the day, he enjoyed golfing and coaching softball. He was a great coach to his daughter’s softball teams over the years. Carl loved going down to the river and boating. He always kept up to date on the news and was politically savvy. Carl liked antique selling. He will be remembered for being very sociable and as someone who never met a stranger and would help anyone in need. Carl was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend and will be missed deeply.
