A new tunnel car wash expected to open this summer on North Henderson Street has been delayed due to equipment issues.
Graham Murray, vice president of Midwest Field Operations for Champion Xpress, tells WGIL the new car wash at 1819 N. Henderson St. is now scheduled to open in “mid September.”
“We are addressing some quality issues and have been waiting on some equipment in the tunnel that was damaged in shipping and on back order,” Murray said. “I have two other sites in Des Moines that are experiencing the same issue unfortunately.”
With 30-plus locations across New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Texas, Iowa and Illinois, Champion Xpress broke ground on the new North Henderson Street car wash last summer.
Galesburg’s second location on North Henderson Street will follow Champion’s build model which includes a slightly longer tunnel, different equipment, a full light show, advanced vacuum stations and a free-to-use mat washer for customers who use the wash.
The existing location at 334 E. Carl Sandburg Dr. has undergone nearly $100,000 in improvements over the past year, including new blowers, a high pressure rinse arch, a new vacuum system and a new water purification system.
