Frey, Mary Ann

Mary Ann J. Frey, 81, of Galesburg, died Wednesday, August 14, 2024, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.

She was born January 30, 1943 in Jolet, Illinois, the daughter of Harold and Mary (Kubus) Staniszewski. Mary Ann graduated from Lockport High School in 1963. After graduating, she married the father of her children, Robert J. Today in 1964. They later divorced but remained good friends. He preceded her in death December 14, 2000. Mary Ann later married Jamie F. Frey on March 25, 1986 in Victorville, California. 

Left to cherish her memory is her wife of 38 years, Jamie Frey of Galesburg; one son, Robert (Deb) Today of Laurel, Nebraska; two daughters, Jeanette Helton and Cindy Coon (Calvin Coon), both of Galesburg; seven grandchildren: Josh, Melanie, Ryan, Amanda, Destiny, Angela, and Rachel; thirteen great grandchildren: Lakota, Kyler, Sophia, Kingston, Adeline, Grayson, Nicole, Chloe, Jax, Noah, Riley, Ashlee, and Ayla; her beloved cats: Snowball, Missy, and Sammy; and several cousins from the areas of Joliet and Crest Hill, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, John Today; and one great granddaughter, Shiann.

Mary Ann was a devout member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She was also a past member of Christian Catholic Women of Marshfield, Missouri. Mary Ann enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, and coloring. She loved taking care of her cats and spending time with her family, especially her grandkids. Mary Ann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend and will be deeply missed. 

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Galesburg. Rosary will be prayed at 11:00 a.m. following the visitation. Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. with Father Stirniman officiating. Cremation will follow. Memorial contributions may be made to Knox County Humane Society or Foster’s Voice-Suicide Awareness.
