A Galesburg man remains jailed on charges accusing him of firing shots Friday night, and of using one of fifteen weapons to do it.

Court records indicate Leslie Mixon, 60, faces charges of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, and Possession of a Weapon by a Felon. A third charge was not formally filed.

Police went to a home in the 900 block of East Brooks Street just before 10 pm Friday on a disturbance call.

Investigators believe Mixon fired several rounds from a gun while in the backyard of his home.

A later search allegedly turned up fifteen guns — four handguns, one “AR-style rifle,” five shotguns, five rifles, and several rounds of ammunition.

“The Galesburg Police Department takes the safety of our community very seriously,” said Russ Idle, Police Chief, in a news release. “We were able to remove multiple weapons from our community that were not only possessed illegally by a convicted felon, but also being fired unsafely. Reckless, illegal activity will not be tolerated, and we are pleased that our officers’ efforts removed 15 illegal weapons from our community.”

A judge Monday granted the state’s motion to keep Mixon locked up.  A preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 16th.
