There were gusty winds with a round of almost-surprise strong to severe thunderstorms that moved through the area Tuesday night into this Wednesday morning, but heavy rain was the big problem in this area.
Storm reports submitted to the National Weather Service indicated anywhere from just under an inch of rain to more than two and a half inches of rain hit the area — depending, almost precisely, on where you live.
The highest storm total in Knox County was 2.5 inches of rain near Victoria, while Knoxville received nearly 2.25 inches.
A storm total from Galesburg wasn’t submitted, but it’s not believed as much rain was recorded here.
Other areas did report some thunderstorm wind damage, with some gusts exceeding 60 miles per hour. Biggsville reported an area of downed fencing, a downed tree blocked the road south of Keithsburg for a while.
Some more rain chances are in the forecast the next couple days, with temperatures cooling down to the 80’s by Friday, and maybe even the mid-70’s for Labor Day Monday.
