Officials shortage forces Galesburg to reschedule another home football game

An inability to secure officials has once again forced Galesburg High School to move a home football game away from a Friday night.

Galesburg’s Western Big 6 Conference game against Quincy will now be played on Thursday, Oct. 3 at Van Dyke Field. Kickoff will be 5 p.m. for the freshman game and 7 p.m. for the varsity game at F&M Bank Stadium. The games were originally scheduled for Friday, October. 4.

Galesburg Athletic Director Nick Young tells WGIL, “In working with Quincy, we both agreed Thursday evening as the reschedule date was a better option than Saturday. From our perspective it’s easier to secure event staff on a Thursday night as opposed to a Saturday.

“Fortunately, the rest of our games have scheduled officiating crews as of (Tuesday).

It marks the second game Galesburg has had to reschedule due to an inability to secure officials. The Streaks’ scheduled home opener this week against Limestone has been moved from Friday to Saturday.

Kickoff times for Saturday’s Galesburg vs. Limestone games are 11 a.m. for the freshmen and 1 p.m. for the varsity at Van Dyke Field.

All Galesburg football games this season can be heard on WGIL, wgil.com and the WGIL app.
