Authorities in Kewanee have released some more information after an Amtrak train hit someone that the passenger rail called a “trespasser” Sunday night.
Kewanee Police have identified the victim as Lukas McCullough, 40, of Kewanee.
Police, Henry County Sheriffs Deputies, and Amtrak Police all responded to a crash not far away from the Kewanee Train Station around 8:00 Sunday night, as what is believed to be the Illinois Zepher was about to arrive.
McCullough was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said at the time an identification and some personal belongings were nearby.
An investigation is believed to be continuing.
The statement of McCullough being a trespasser came from Amtrak not long after the incident, claiming railroad trespassing is becoming more of a problem.
