We might sound biased, but we still like the idea of listening to sporting events on the radio.

We say that because Galesburg’s cable television provider says one sports network is going off the air as of Monday, and a new network essentially replacing it won’t be on cable in this area.

According to an e-mail sent to customers of Xfinity cable several days ago, NBC Sports Chicago goes off the air after 20 years, with a new network starting Tuesday called Chicago Sports Network not replacing it as of yet.

NBC Sports Chicago is going away soon

On September 30, 2024, NBC Sports Chicago will cease operations and no longer be available. The games that were previously available on NBC Sports Chicago will now air on a new channel called Chicago Sports Network, which Xfinity does not currently carry. Learn more

We’re evaluating the Regional Sports Network (RSN) fee that applies to your current TV package and will communicate any changes in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, great sports programming is still available with Xfinity. Just say “Sports” into your Xfinity Voice Remote to view your options.

Mediacom Cable‘s lineup doesn’t have the new network either.

Chicago Sports Network, owned by the Bulls, Blackhawks, and White Sox, will be the home of those teams. The Chicago Cubs are part-owners of Marquee Sports, which carries their games.

Chicago Sports Network is so far available over the air in Chicago, and on DirecTV, and says it’s negotiating with other providers.

Xfinity, meanwhile, says it’s reevaluating its Regional Sports Network fee, and will make a decision in the coming weeks.

We reached out to Comcast, which owns NBC and Xfinity, and they provided no further comment.

The change comes after Bally Sports networks — which air the Saint Louis Cardinals among others — was off Xfinity for a few months before a new deal was reached.
