A convicted felon with an Oklahoma address is facing charges in Knox County after a Saturday afternoon traffic stop.
Galesburg police pulled over an SUV driven by 31-year-old Cody Wyatt Earp because of a broken windshield at the corner of Havey and Henderson Streets.
Earp’s address is in Woodward, Oklahoma according to the driver’s license he gave police but court records indicate he’s been a presence in Knox County for over a decade.
Dispatch told the officer that registration on Earp’s vehicle was suspended.
Earp also had a Galesburg woman as a passenger.
K9 Officer Zeus was then deployed, alerted to the presence of narcotics and led officers to find about 3 grams of heroin in a bag on the passenger side floorboard.
Also under the passenger seat officers found a pistol with 8 9mm rounds of ammunition in a magazine but none in the gun’s chamber.
Earp has previous felony convictions for weapons offenses and retail theft while his passenger previously was convicted of meth possession.
Both are expected to make initial court appearances on Monday.
