The incumbent Democrat Congressman representing the 17th Congressional District says he’s more than a little concerned about the latest the news of hundreds more layoffs by Moline-based John Deere announced this week.
Congressman Eric Sorensen’s office says he’s sent a letter to John Deere CEO John May, asking questions about what he says is a total of two-thousand people laid off this year in the Quad Cities area, following 200-plus more announced this week at Quad Cities-area plants.
Deere has claimed declining sales as one of the reasons, but Sorensen’s letter asks five questions he says he wants answered.
Those include what steps there are in order to prevent future layoffs, if salary and bonus adjustments have been made at the executive level, and if they’re helping laid off workers finding more work.
Sorensen (D-East Moline) says he wants Deere to be forthcoming about their future plans.
Meanwhile, on social media, his November opponent, Judge Joe McGraw (R-Rockford) claims the only job Sorensen will fight for, is his own.
Sorensen, by the way, is scheduled to be a guest on Galesburg’s Morning News on WGIL October 29th. You can hear McGraw’s interview from this week by CLICKING HERE.
