What has become one of the more important parts of OSF HealthCare as it’s expanded over the years is marking a milestone.

OSF’s Life Flight helicopter service is turning 40.

That’s 40 years since the first helicopter took off from OSF in Peoria.

Now, officials say, helicopters are based here in Galesburg, as well as Bloomington, Peru, and Rock Falls.

OSF Aviation vice president Kathleen Devine says the 40th anniversary “is a testament to the dedication of our team and the trust we’ve built with the communities we serve.”

At a Peoria ceremony, OSF showed off the newest part of the fleet — an Airbus D3, H145 helicopter, the fifth and newest helicopter that will take to the air.

“The Airbus H145 represents our ongoing mission to deliver top-tier care to patients across Illinois,” said Devine, in a news release.
