Galesburg man facing DUI and more charges after hitting back of squad car

A Galesburg man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly crashed drunkenly into the back of a Galesburg Police squad car.

The officer was stopped at the corner of Ella and Lincoln Streets talking to a bicyclist who was riding at night without a light.

A gold minivan that police say was driven 27-year-old Cody Sibley crashed into the rear of the squad car before driving away.

While the officer was pursuing the minivan, the vehicle ran off the roadway and struck a utility pole in the area of Berrien St. and Churchill Ave.

Sibley was arrested at the scene and transported to the Public Safety Building for processing.

Sibley was found to have a blood alcohol concentration of .198% well over the legal limit.

He faces charges including DUI, reckless driving, aggravated fleeing and more.

Under the Pretrial Fairness Act Sibley was booked and released from jail pending further court hearings.
