Longtime owner of popular former Titletown Video in Galesburg dies

A Galesburg man who spent most of his career in retail, including as the owner of a popular video rental store. has died.

Jack Oakley, who owned and operated Titletown Video at 991 N. Henderson St. for 20 years, died Wednesday at his Galesburg home. He was 89.

Oakley also worked as a manager for more than  11 years for the former Montgomery Ward Department Store. 

Oakley graduated from Galesburg High School in 1953. He attended Western Illinois University and graduated from Elkhart University in Elkhart, Indiana. He served in the US Army from 1956-1958.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy of Galesburg; his children, Julia A. (Thomas) Komaniecki of Somonauk, Illinois, and John E. (Connie) Oakley of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and his grandson, Dylan Oakley.

Graveside services for Jack Oakley are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
