Two people are dead as the result of a two-vehicle accident Monday afternoon near Rice Lake in Fulton County.
At approximately 2 p.m. Monday, deputies of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a head-on traffic accident in the area of US 24 Hwy near Rice Lake. Upon arrival, deputies located two vehicles involved with both vehicles containing one occupant. During the preliminary investigation it was determined that a Dodge pickup had crossed the center-line of the roadway and struck a Kia SUV. US 24 was closed to traffic while the Illinois State Police conducted an accident reconstruction related to the incident.
Fulton County Coroner Austin Rhodes has released the names of the individuals involved in the collision. The driver of the KIA SUV was identified as Carina L. Kapraun, 38 of Astoria. Kapraun was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident.
The driver of the Dodge pickup truck has been identified as Kyle Kunkel, 55 of Humble, Texas. Despite resuscitation efforts by Fulton Co. EMA paramedics, Kunkel was pronounced deceased at Graham Hospital’s Emergency Department in Canton.
Autopsies were performed on both individuals on Tuesday in Peoria County.
This incident remains under investigation by the Fulton County Coroner’s Office.
