Fire causes smoke damage to vacant Galesburg home

An unoccupied Galesburg home sustained smoke damage as the result of a fire early Thursday morning.

The Galesburg Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 109 S. Whitesboro Street at 6:09 a.m. Thursday. Upon arrival, fire crews encountered heavy smoke coming from the eaves and flames coming from the back door of the story-and-a-half residential structure.

The property was unoccupied at the time of the fire. No injuries were reported.

Preliminary damages are estimated at approximately $10,000. The fire was contained to a back stairwell with smoke damage throughout the home.

Galesburg Fire Department Investigators are still investigating the cause of the fire.
