Mr. Richard M. (Rick) Cottom, age 65, of Jackson, Georgia, passed away Monday March 17, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Rick was born Wednesday September 9, 1959, in Galesburg, Illinois to the late Simon Harold and Claudene Crocker Cottom. He graduated R.O.V.A. High School and attended Clayton State College. Rick was born and raised in Illinois. Four years after starting a family of his own, he moved his young Family south to Georgia. This is where he lived his adult life and where his children were raised. He was a Professional Truck Driver for over 49 years being employed by Collins Trucking for the last 15. During his 49 years in trucking, he was a diesel mechanic for 15 years. Rick was a history buff, and he enjoyed collecting guns and restoring classic cars, he was a lifelong member of the NRA.
Rick is survived by his wife of 44 years, Pamela Southwick Cottom, his son and daughter; Lucas Cottom of Watkinsville, Georgia and Courtney Cottom of Hampton, Georgia; 2 grandchildren; Logan Brown and Alexander Cottom, and his brother and sister; Ronald Cottom of Wataga, Illinois and Martha Peck of Galesburg, Illinois. In addition to his parents, Rick is preceded in death by 2 sisters: Rita Chism and Peggy Cottom.
Funeral Services for Mr. Richard M. (Rick) Cottom will be at 1 p.m. Friday March 28, 2025, at the Hurd Hendricks Funeral Home 204 East Prospect St, Oneida, Illinois 61467, Pastor Mark Dexter will officiate, you may visit with the Family immediately prior to the Service, beginning at noon. He will be laid to rest in the Oneida Cemetery in Oneida, Illinois. Friends and Relatives are invited to join the family for a luncheon at the Oneida Fire Department in Oneida, Illinois.
