Mark S. Byerly, age 71, of Galesburg, Illinois, died peacefully at 12:08 a.m. on Monday, March 31, 2025, at his home in Galesburg, Illinois surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born on October 26, 1953, in Galesburg, Illinois the son of Leonard and Vera (Shaw) Byerly. He attended and graduated from Galesburg High School the class of 1971. He married the love of his life Lorrie J. Hensley on October 16, 1982, at Harmony Baptist Church in Galesburg, Illinois.

He leaves behind his devoted wife, Lorrie of Galesburg, Illinois; two daughters: Amanda (Dan) Cervantez of Galesburg, and Haley (Caleb) Weaver of Galesburg, two grandchildren: Parker and Hazel Cervantez. A brother, Larry Raaen of South Carolina and brother Leonard (Sally) Byerly of New York. He was also loved by several bother & sisters in laws as well as several nieces and nephews. He was greeted in Heaven by his parents; a sister, Tammy Simkins; and his beloved bulldogs Artie and Duchess.

He worked as a welder and enjoyed doing various other jobs in the area. He was “Mr. Fix It” around the house and for his daughters. He was the best papa and also loved his grand-dogs, Fiona and Lucky. He spent his younger days cruising around in motorcycles and hot rods with Lorrie and friends. Mark had a wonderful sense of humor and would do anything for anyone.

The family extends their gratitude and heartful thanks to OSF Hospice Staff for their care of Mark, especially Ruth Ann Brown and Jenny Curtis.

Private graveside services will be held. He will be laid to rest at the Knoxville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family to be used at a later date. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois have been entrusted with his wishes.
