
A popular dentist who practiced in Galesburg for more than 40 years has died.
Dr. Frederick (Fred) Pacey of Galesburg passed away on Thursday, April 3. He was 92.
From 1962 to 2005, Pacey ran his dental practice in Galesburg, becoming a familiar face to generations of patients. Beyond his profession, he was active in the community—serving on the board of United Federal Savings and Loan, worshipping at First Presbyterian Church, and connecting through Phi Delta Theta and Delta Sigma Delta fraternities.

Born in Galesburg on February 19, 1933, Pacey graduate from Galesburg High School in 1951. He attended Northwestern University and Knox College before earning his degree from the University of Illinois College of Dentistry in 1962. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1956 with Air Sea Rescue, stationed in Japan and Korea.
He married Judith “Judy” Reily on June 20, 1959, in Moline. She proceeded him in death.
According to his obituary, Pacey loved golf, and was a longtime member of Soangetaha Country Club. He also took pleasure in building a backyard ice rink at his Prairie Street home to teach his sons and neighborhood kids to skate.
He leaves behind sons Kurt (Suzanne) of Alpharetta, Georgia, and Tim (Susan) of San Diego, California; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his brother, Dr. Jack Pacey of Dahinda. His wife Judy, parents, and sister Joan Boydstun preceded him in death.
A celebration of life is planned for later this year for Dr. Fred Pacey.
