Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers is making progress toward opening its first Galesburg location, with civil drawings now submitted to the city and architectural plans underway, the franchisee confirmed to WGIL on Thursday.
The fast-casual restaurant, known for its steakburgers and frozen custard, would the located on Henderson Street, with an anticipated opening by the end of 2025, according to franchisee Steven Young of MLY Investments. He did not disclose the exact location.
Young, whose Cedar Rapids, Iowa-based MLY Investments operates 11 Freddy’s across Iowa and Illinois, said: “We have officially submitted civil drawings to the city for review and have begun architectural drawings, and we feel great about this site.”
He noted that construction typically takes five months once it begins.
Steve Gugliotta, director of Community Development for the city of Galesburg, said his department received the drawings from the franchisee on Wednesday. He said the Development Review Committee will review the plans at its meeting on April 30.
WGIL first reported in September 2024 that Freddy’s was targeting Galesburg, with Young initially indicating a 2025 opening at a then-undetermined spot.
Freddy’s, founded in Wichita, Kansas, in 2002, boasts over 530 locations across 36 states, with more in development. The chain offers cooked-to-order steakburgers, all-beef hot dogs, shoestring fries, and freshly churned frozen custard treats. The nearest Freddy’s are in East Peoria, at 134 E. Spinder Dr., and two in Davenport, Iowa.
