Galesburg house fire injures one, dog rescued

One person was injured and a dog was rescued during a house fire that caused significant structural, smoke and fire damage at 119 Lincoln St. on Monday afternoon.

The Galesburg Fire Department responded to the blaze at 12:07 p.m. on Monday. The fire engulfed a two-story, wood-framed house, with smoke billowing from the roof and rear corner upon the firefighters’ arrival.

Firefighters entered the home, rescuing a dog from the first floor before advancing to the second floor to extinguish the fire.

One resident, who self-evacuated, was transported by Galesburg Hospital Ambulance Service to OSF St. Mary Medical Center for treatment of injuries and later airlifted to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.

The fire caused extensive structural, smoke, and fire damage to the home. The Galesburg Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire.
