Owners of Quinn’s Corner restaurant in Abingdon will not be rebuilding their shop that was destroyed in a September fire last year.
Rick Quinn who ran the sandwich shop with his wife Cookie, says negotiations with an insurance company have been ongoing.
They have also been in talks with another business interested in purchasing the lot, though the deal is not finalized.
Rick tells WGIL the fire damaged the building beyond repair.
“It was said that building did have to come down. It was not salvageable,” Quinn says. “Most of the structuring inside the building, it got so hot in there that it actually twisted the metal structuring.”
The Quinn’s were set to sell the business and retire later this year.
After the fire, the original buyer backed away, not interested in buying the lot alone.
Rick says originally they were planning on rebuilding but doing so would have been a financial loss.
“To rebuild it and put everything back in there we were going to end up losing money for what we agreed to for the sale price,” Quinn says. “It’s not a win-win proposition in my eyes”
The Quinn’s believe they are near settling with insurance and are looking forward to retirement.
Quinn’s Corner was known for their burgers, subs and ice cream and opened the doors in 1996.
