Sharon Joan (Kell) Young, 67, of Dahinda, died at 5:45 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2016 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.
She was born February 21, 1949, in Galesburg, the daughter of William and Madoline (Whiteside) Kell. She married Carl W. Young Sr. on July 3, 1970 in Galesburg.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Carl Sr.; a son, Carl W. (and Annette) Young Jr. of Alexis; a daughter, Sarah J. (and Andy) Blake of Galesburg; five granddaughters, Brittany, Courtney, and Samantha Young and Holly and Gracie Blake; one great granddaughter, Keira Caves; a sister, Marilyn Brooks of Kalama, Washington; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Sharon stayed at home raising her family and enjoyed taking care of them. After the children were grown, she attended and graduated from Carl Sandburg College Nursing Program. She worked as an LPN at the Knox County Nursing Home for many years, where she lived the last several years of her life. She loved and appreciated the ones who took care of her there. She had been a student at Galesburg High School and graduated from Knoxville High School. Sharon was of the Christian faith. In addition to taking care of her family, she loved dancing and knitting.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2016 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Rev. Jim Ecklund officiating. Cremation will be accorded following the service. Memorial contributions in Sharon’s name may be made to the family to establish a memorial in her name.
