Officers revive man overdosing at Illinois county court

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) — Authorities in northern Illinois say three correctional officers revived a man who suffered an apparent opiate overdose in a courtroom seating area.

Lake County Sheriff’s officials tell the (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald that two officers were in a courtroom at the Lake County courthouse Wednesday morning when they saw the 24-year-old man slumped over in the public seating area. Authorities say the officers approached the man, found him unconscious and barely breathing and determined he likely was overdosing.

Officials say the officers administered him two doses of the drug overdose antidote naloxone. The man started to regain consciousness and breathe normally. He was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.

The man wasn’t immediately identified. The newspaper reports he admitted to using Xanax and heroin before arriving at court.
