CHICAGO (AP) — A Chicago police disciplinary body that ruled an officer’s 2015 fatal shooting of a 19-year-old and a woman bystander was unjustified is recommending that the officer be fired.
Chicago Police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi confirmed on Thursday that Superintendent Eddie Johnson received the letter last month from the Civilian Office of Police Accountability. Earlier in the day, the Chicago Sun-Timesreported that it had obtained the letter from Andrea Kersten, deputy chief administrator of the disciplinary body.
Guglielmi says the department is reviewing the recommendation to fire Officer Robert Rialmo.
Rialmo was responding to a call at a residence in December 2015 when he fatally shot old Quintonio LeGrier because he said the teen was charging at him with a bat. He also accidentally killed bystander, Bettie Jones.
