CHICAGO (AP) – Cook County Circuit Court Clerk Dorothy Brown says she’s running for Chicago mayor to create a transparent and inclusive government as well as to combat violence.
In Sunday’s announcement she says she’ll correct inequities where some parts of Chicago aren’t treated as well as others. And Brown says she wants to help create a Chicago where “we’re not known around the world for crime and police brutality.”
Brown enters the 2019 mayoral race amid a federal investigation centered on bribes-for-jobs allegations in her county office. She repeatedly has denied any wrongdoing and hasn’t been charged. She says she’s a “proven leader” and “people trust me.”
Other challengers to Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel include Neal Sales-Griffin, a tech entrepreneur who wants to set term limits and remove big money from politics.
