
Mirmadean “Mimi” Clayton, 78 of Galesburg and formerly of Abingdon, passed away at 3:56 p.m. Sunday, April 22, 2018 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.She was born February 15, 1940 in Moark, Arkansas the daughter of Charles J. and Freda M. Dixon Myers. She married Larry D. Clayton on April 20, 1959 in Lewistown. Larry Sr. preceded her in death on January 1, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one daughter Carol Brown, two infant siblings, Truman and Velma Myers, three sisters, Vada Poyner, Wilma Jones and Joyce Parnaby, and two infant great-grandchildren.
Mimi is survived by two sons, Larry D. (and Debbie) Clayton, Jr. of Decatur and Gary (and Mary) Clayton, Sr. of Abingdon; one daughter, Vilma (and Chad) Fox of Cameron; 13 grandchildren, and 30 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Inelda Hopping of Galesburg.
She graduated from Abingdon High School in 1958. She lived in Abingdon, Las Vegas, and in Galesburg the past 23 years. She worked in her early years at Smolars Sewing Factory in Monmouth and while living in Las Vegas she worked at Stop & Go. She was a homemaker and enjoyed playing video games, dominos, cross stitching and working word search games. She was a member of the former Jesus Name Pentecostal Church in Galesburg and more recently was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Abingdon.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel. Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel with Rev. Jeremiah Barker officiating. Burial will be in the Avon Cemetery.
