Harold L. Smith, 92, of Galva, died at 10:54 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2019 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 5 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Rev. Randall Swanson will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Messiah Lutheran Church or the Galva Senior Citizen Center.

He was born January 17, 1927, in Galesburg, IL the son of Edwin and Edna (Ellickson) Smith. He married Ethel Marie Emken on February 7, 1954 in Henderson Grove and she preceded him in death on September 14, 2012. Survivors include his son, Roger (Deb) Smith of Galva, four grandchildren, Jason Smith (Johanna Kremer) of Geneseo, Krystle Smith (Gereco Buckner) of Memphis, TN and Darrious and Jatavius Smith eight great-grandchildren, a brother Harvey Smith of Galesburg and several nieces and nephews.   He was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Harold farmed with his wife for 20 years in the Galesburg and Galva area. He had also worked for the Galva School District. Harold operated a lawn mowing business with his wife and they had mowed lawns in the Galva area since 1980. He continued this following her death until earlier this spring. He had also been a craft vendor with his wife. Harold and his wife would make trips to Michigan and bring back peaches to sell to local customers. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and had held several positions on the church board and been the caretaker at the church for a number of years.
