
Police have arrested a Galesburg woman and charged her with the murder of her 7-year-old child.
Officers responded to 1500 McKnight Street in response to a report of an unknown problem with a child. When they arrived they found a 7-year-old female dead from apparent knife wounds.
A joint investigation was conducted by Galesburg Police, Knox County Sheriff’s Department, the State’s Attorney, and Illinois State Police.
That led to the arrest of the victim’s mother, 29-year-old Hazel L. Ivy of Galesburg.
Ivy has been arrested and is being held in the Knox County Jail awaiting court dates on a first-degree murder charge.
The name of the victim has not been released at this time.

District 205 administrators announced that members of the School Crisis Response Team from ROE #33 and Galesburg CUSD #205 will be available to assist any student or community member in need of counseling due to the passing of the 7-year-old child.
Trained staff will be available for this purpose at Steele School at 1480 West Main Street from 8:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Monday, January 25.
