Galesburg Silver Streaks Boys Basketball vs. Sterling Golden Warriors

2-9-20-ghs-boys

The Galesburg Silver Streaks boys basketball team opened its season Tuesday with a 50-47 nail-biting victory over the Sterling Golden Warriors, which had already played three games prior to the Western Big 6 Conference opener.

The Silver Streaks’ biggest lead was eight in the game.  But that came way back in the first quarter, and Sterling ended the first half on a 9-2 run, to tie the game up at 24.  From that point forward, it was never more than a five-point lead, although Sterling was never able to take the lead from Galesburg in the third and fourth quarters.  The game was tied three different times.  But, it came down to a one-point lead.  Eric Price at the foul line, five-seconds left in a one-and-one, and Price knocked down both free-throws that secured the three-point victory.  Sterling did get off a final shot from about 27 feet, but it did not go.

Price was our Dave’s Autobody Crunch Time Player of the Game, for knocking down those two winning free throws.

The victory capped off a clean sweep of the Sterling program.  The GHS freshmen won 54-35; the sophomores were victorious 50-38.

The Silver Streaks now move on to play Moline, also at the GHS Fieldhouse Friday night, before heading to Geneseo for their first road game on Saturday.  You can hear the GHS boys game Friday night starting at 7:06pm on WGIL.  The Streaks girls play at Moline Friday night, with that game airing on 92.7 FM The Laser starting at 7:10pm.
