A Knox County Sheriff’s Deputy was struck by a vehicle and killed Friday morning in an incident related to a car chase.

Authorities have not released the identity of the deputy or any suspects.

Illinois State Police say that Galesburg Police responded to a 911 call of a suspect with a gun at the Circle K Gas Station on Main Street at around 8 a.m. Friday morning.

Two officers located the vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop.

That’s when the suspect continued to drive and fled north on US Highway 150.

A Knox County Deputy began setting up spike strips at the intersection of US Highway 150 at 150 Avenue, in Henry County,  when he was struck by the suspect vehicle.

The ISP investigative team says they “will be working around the clock to get answers and will update everyone in the hours and days ahead.”

Galesburg City Hall has been designated as the collection point for anyone wishing to support the Knox County Sheriff’s Office with food, flowers, or gifts.
