The Galesburg City Council on Monday looks to apply for a grant that would help several homes be rehabilitated with state dollars.

The grant is the State of Illinois’ Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Development Block Grant Program.

One grant being applied for is the program’s housing rehabilitation grant, while the council is also seeking dollars from the public infrastructure grant to replace a 100-year-old sanitary sewer main.

The housing rehab funds must totally benefit low-to-moderate-income persons as determined by federal HUD guidelines.

The city is applying for the max $650,000 amount which would allow 8 to 10 homes to receive renovation work at a maximum of $60,000 per home, with no cost to the homeowner.

The program is for single-family, owner-occupied housing and rehabilitation that addresses
mechanical, structural, energy efficiency, and other work to bring the property up to state and local codes.

The City applied for and received this same grant which allowed 7 homes in Ward 3 to be rehabbed from 2017-2019.

Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers of City Hall at 55 W. Tompkins St.
